Going around in Athens:

Going around in Athens is, as a rule, safe even late at night. Traffic is often jammed so using the new underground METRO (lines 2 and 3) or the old above-ground METRO (line 1) is recommended.

Taxis, trolleys, buses and the METRO are some of your options to go around in Athens.

Taxis:

Taxis are relatively inexpensive, although some of them are quite old and beat-up. It is not uncommon, at rush hour, for the taxi driver to get a second passenger going in the same direction. Although it is an illegal act, the law is not strictly enforced, as it is convenient for everybody (passengers and taxi drivers) and help reduce traffic, pollution and cost! You don’t have to be at a taxi stop to get a taxi. You just have to signal to the driver. Most distances in the center of Athens can be covered with 3-10 Euros.

The METRO of Athens:
